Ann:
Buy an ornament that personifies you. Yes, that sounds crazy. But why not? It will be something fun for you to look back on one day, and many ornaments don’t cost much more than a coffee at Starbucks.
Does this sound like fun, but you don’t know what kind of ornament to buy? Think of your main interest from the year, your favorite thing you did, or just something you think is pretty. Don’t splurge unless you want to, but don’t buy something that will break before the season is over, either. Write on the back or bottom of the ornament the date and your name, and add it to the tree. Maybe you could even make it a tradition! What fun it will be to look back at a collection of ornaments in ten or twenty years!
Emilie:
This month’s recommendation is to dissect a hymn. In the season of Christmas and New Years, it may be easier than other times. Your dissection may only be the first stanza of the hymn, or only the chorus, if you wished. But truly try to understand and appreciate the meaning that the words give. You can try to trace the chorus back to the Bible passage that it was inspired by, research who wrote it, or simply write it over, a few times. Hymns are often underappreciated in our current times, and I truly hope that we can keep them alive in our minds and hearts.
